The lone church was built in the middle of the woods of the Vltava basin between 1719 and 1722 on a complex and dynamic ground plan typical for high Baroque architecture. Ever since its construction finished, popular interest in spiritual activity at Maková hora has continued to grow. The structure only started to deteriorate during the reign of the communist regime. A new golden age started at Maková hora with the arrival of František Homola, a lay brother of the Capuchin order. The efforts of this monk and hermit brought about a spiritual revitalisation of this location and turned the church, where he lived and personally cared for all visitors, into a popular tourist destination.
