The Jemniště Chateau is described as the Baroque pearl of Central Bohemia and it is definitely not an exaggeration. The chateau was designed by the famous architect František Maxmilián Kaňka, and besides one modification after a fire in 1754, the Jemniště look has not been changed by any other fundamental reconstructions. Thanks to that, this unique example of a noble mansion from the Late Baroque period has been preserved.
At present, Jemniště is a private mansion, returned in restitution to its legal owners, who are the descendants of one of the oldest noble families in the country, the Šternberks. The chateau was built in the 18th century according to the design of the aforesaid famous Baroque architect František Maxmilián Kaňka. The Šternberks have owned the chateau since 1868. The current owner, Jiří Šternberk and his family live in the left wing of the chateau, while the other parts of the building are open to the public and contain beautiful suites, a wellness centre, a restaurant or a café.
