The village with the beautiful Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie) is located 14 km from Mladá Boleslav. It is situated at an altitude of 311 metres above sea level. The territory is in Severočeská křída (Cretaceous Period of Northern Bohemia) — a natural water protected area. The administrative territory covers an area of 1 522 ha and consists of 5 sections, namely the villages of Doubravice, Katusice, Spikaly, Trnová and Valovice

The first written mention of the village dates back to 1352.The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is situated on the square. Already in the 14th century there was a parish church, which was rebuilt in the 16th century in the Late Gothic style.  Reconstruction in the Baroque style took place in the times of the counter-Reformation. After it burnt down due to lightning strikes in 1847, the people rebuilt it in 1853, this time in a contemporary neo-Gothic style.
